I have had the most awesome two days in a long time.

First of all, I'd like to introduce you all to Raptoress: . I saw a post in a community on Live Journal about a new art store opening up about a block away from my building so I had to check it out. Little did I know that I would strike up a great conversation with the owner and find out that we are both on dA! Her store will definitely be my first stop whenever I'm looking for supplies.

And then today I had my vacation approved, so I get to go visit my boyfriend in August! OMG, I'm so happy! 13 days with him! I'm already so excited that I don't know how I'm going to wait three whole months.

Now for my most nerdy moment ever....

There was a fund raiser for the food bank in my office building today. If you donated you had the chance to play chess against the 2006 Canadian Grand Chess Champion (or whatever his official title is). Yes, that's right - I've played chess against a master! And the best part is... I didn't lose!

...Ok, I didn't win either. I only have an hour for lunch, and he was playing up to 22 people at a time in this round table thing, so he would come to your spot, you'd move, he'd move, and then he'd go around to everyone else giving you time to consider what to do next. We got maybe 15 moves into the game - I wasn't writing it down so I'm not sure exactly - and then I had to resign and go back to work. BUT - we were tied in points when I left. He'd taken a pawn and a knight, while I'd taken a pawn and a bishop. (Knights and Bishops have the same point value.) I'm sure he would have killed me in the end game, but at least I wasn't making a complete fool of myself. There were a lot of spectators too, so I didn't want to suck too badly. I was also the only girl playing, so I had a bit more than the average amount of attention focussed on me.

They even fed us sandwiches and pop. (Well, they are the food bank - it's what they do. LOL) And they gave me a cool little keychain from the Calgary chess club. It was a lot of fun, and I'm glad I had the guts to do it.
